Myanmar Preschool Project

Pastor Che Ko with NLLB supporters purchased land in order to offer a Free Preschool in a poor villager.  The goal was to prepare poor children for government school, encouraging them to attend and to stay in school. Often poor children are not prepared for school and become discouraged, leaving school to work with their families.

The old house on the property was removed and a new, concrete and brick house was built. The house has one bedroom, a small kitchen and a main room for the school children. Pastor Che Ko's wife is the teacher for the school. The school is about to graduate it's first 12 students. Of the 12 students chosen to attend, the first 2 that were accepted were children of widows. The students were all chosen by a drawing, as many villagers wanted their children to attend.

This will be a self-supported program once built with after school tutoring by Pastor Che Ko to Middle and High School students. Included in our plans will be a small FREE borrowing library for the children and adults in the village. NLLB did fund a small classroom library and cabinet for books. The name "Hope Step" was chosen by the village as this school will become a stepping stone into future successful education and will offer hope to the children from this poor area.

The majority of funds were raised by 2 American high school sisters. They actively participated in school design and were eager to be part of supporting education for those without access. These young students have partnered with NLLB since they were young!
