Natalia is one of NLLB's first burn victims from 15 years ago when she was just 9 years old. She was sent to the USA for reconstructive surgery and endured burn care for a year before returning to her family. She comes from a poor, remote village in Indonesia where she grew up without electricity or running water. Natalia is very bright and worked very hard to do well in school. She attended a boarding school for high school in order to obtain a better
education, working as a laundress to pay for her room/meals. After high school it was her
dream to go to nursing school, but her education (though better than most in her area, was
still far below the level it would take for her to enter university). Natalia then spent a year in
Jakarta studying in order to pass her entrance exams. She graduated from a 3 year nursing
school at the top of her class. This program is far below USA Nursing standards. She is now
attending an English "stepping stone" program at the University of New Mexico (where she currently holds a 95.5% average) and hopes to attend the university and study nursing. NLLB has been supporting her English program, although we do not have the funds to pay for all of the costs of her education. We are asking you to help us find a way to help her meet her goals and dreams. If anyone knows of women's or business organizations who offer scholarship opportunities or if you have ideas for fundraising, please make contact at nllb07@gmail.com. Natalia has worked so hard to
get this far and we want to help her succeed!
