In the midst of one of the worst events today, which we are watching in real time; there is love, kindness and caring.
In this photo you will see 5 families, unrelated and brought together by a great tragedy; Russians, Americans and Ukrainians.
The stories of escape are heart breaking…the stories of those left behind are devastating…the losses are unimaginable…the unknowns of family members and friends is unthinkable.
Yet, this photo is one of hope…..of kindness….of open arms. Sasha and Elizabeth are my friends. Sasha is Russian. Elizabeth is American. They live in
the country of Georgia and are missionaries. NLLB partnered with them on some projects in Russia when we all lived there and again now.
They were asked to take in a Ukrainian family of 3 and their friend who left Ukraine…who lost everything…..left behind family and friends. Soon, they were taking in more families. Finding them places to stay and temporary or part time jobs, and feeding them physically and spiritually, as they arrived broken and worn out.
I am sending you this photo so you can see the faces of those who survived...those who
have hope...even during their great losses and unknown futures.
Vera left behind her son and daughter-in-law and 2 grandchildren. She was supposed to take the grandchildren with her. However, at the last minute, the parents changed their minds. The daughter-in-law is a doctor and not allowed to leave, and Vera’s son is required to stay and fight. Now, the war is 1 mile from them and they cannot get the children out. This is devastating Vera, as you can imagine.
Two new Ukrainian families arrived from Russia, where they lived and worked in peace until now. They are no longer safe there and decided to leave; however they had no home country to return to. Instead, they heard about Sasha and Elizabeth and went to Georgia.
Rent in this area is approximately $200 to $400/month. (Rent is going up these days.) Food and other needs are more. NLLB is funding rent for one family for 3 months and food/supply money. We want to show our love and caring as this young family recovers and make plans for their future.
If you would like to support and join this effort please donate. Funds will go directly to the needs of the families involved.
Checks can be sent directly to NLLB at:
